Complete Question
I’ve been working at Level One recovery for about three months, and I’ve seen many of my symptoms subside, such as headaches, numbness and tingling, chest pain, skin burning, floor moving, etc.
However, a couple of my symptoms (ears hissing/ringing, dizziness, and stomach problems) are still as strong as ever. Do these types of symptoms take longer to subside than others?
Anxiety Tests
Answer
Stress, including anxiety-caused stress, affects each body uniquely. As such, each person can have a unique anxiety symptom experience, including which symptoms are the most problematic and which take the longest to subside.
What may be bothersome for you, might not be a problem for someone else. However, some symptoms seem to be the last to subside for many people.
Dizziness/lightheadedness, tinnitus (hissing/ringing in the ears), sleep disruption, fatigue, trembling/shaking, and stomach/digestive problems often take longer to subside than other anxiety symptoms.
This is not to suggest that these symptoms will take the longest for you, as, again, you can have a unique anxiety symptom experience. But that these symptoms have a reputation taking the longest to subside.
Dizziness/lightheadedness and tinnitus took the longest for me (Jim Folk).
Nevertheless, if you continue to practice your recovery strategies, your lingering symptoms will subside as your body recovers from hyperstimulation. It’s only a matter of time.
When you eliminate the cause of the problem (anxiety-caused hyperstimulation), the problem and its symptoms subside.
If you stay the course, you will eliminate all your symptoms, including those that seem stuck at the moment.
