How To Recover From An Anxiety Disorder Recovery Setback?

My recovery was going well, and most of my symptoms had subsided. But a week ago, I had a sudden uptick in symptoms, and I’m not sure why. I know setbacks can happen during recovery and why, so that’s not my question. My question is, how do you recover from a setback?

Yes, setbacks are common for anxiety disorder and hyperstimulation recovery. Most people experience setbacks on the way back to normal, non-hyperstimulated health. I had my share, too.

Briefly, you can recover from setbacks by returning to the basics of recovery. Faithfully practicing the recovery strategies you initially benefited from will return your body to its previous state. It’s just a matter of time.

If you don’t know why you had a setback, it’s important to figure that out so you don’t have a repeat down the road.

Working on your recovery with an experienced anxiety disorder therapist is the best way to address both levels of recovery, which can prevent setbacks caused by anxious behavior.

Until Level Two recovery work is done, we’ll always be vulnerable to setbacks caused by anxious behavior.

The combination of good self-help information and working with an experienced anxiety disorder therapist, coach, or counselor is the most effective way to address anxiety and its many symptoms. Until the core causes of anxiety are addressed – which we call the underlying factors of anxiety – a struggle with anxiety unwellness can return again and again. Dealing with the underlying factors of anxiety is the best way to address problematic anxiety.
