Phillip's Biography

Philip’s journey into therapy is rooted in his own profound struggles with anxiety, trauma, and the relentless quest for meaning, self-understanding, inner balance and peace. At the age of 27, a traumatic event triggered the onset of his Anxiety and Panic Disorder. This wasn’t an isolated incident; Philip’s life prior to that was marked by enduring stress, a persistent urge to appease others, a lack of personal boundaries, and an unyielding pace of life.

The traumatic event triggered Philip’s internal turmoil, leading him to experience severe PTSD and Anxiety symptoms. As he grappled with these overwhelming feelings and sensations, Philip simultaneously unearthed a dormant congenital heart condition, further blurring the lines between his physical and emotional afflictions. Despite medical assurances about the benign nature of his heart condition, the lingering fear of death and physical suffering clouded his everyday existence. His subsequent move to South Sudan, a nation recovering from a half-century-long civil war and grappling with inadequate healthcare, only intensified his existential fears. At the end, that brought his life to a complete halt.

In his search for solace, Philip explored various treatments ranging from Benzodiazepines to self-medication. However, it was only when he sought professional therapy and consciously shifted his lifestyle that he began his authentic healing journey, transforming into a person who cherishes life and its many intricacies, mysteries, and adventures.

Equipped with a Master of Divinity degree, specializing in Clinical Counselling, Philip combines academic rigor with his intimate knowledge of personal pain. This synthesis allows him to delve deeply into the intricate weave of his clients’ physical, emotional, behavioral, and spiritual challenges, offering both emotional and spiritual support, if needed. Particularly attuned to existential anxieties, Philip provides a reassuring presence for those wrestling with existential crises.

Philip’s professional experience spans diverse populations. He has worked with individuals grappling with homelessness, addiction, mental health issues, trauma, intimate partner violence, and more. His time in the challenging environment of South Sudan has fortified him with resilience, making him adept at addressing the concerns of the most vulnerable and distressed clientele.

Beyond his credentials and experiences, what truly defines Philip is his innate empathy. He doesn’t merely listen; he engages with the emotions and needs of his clients, establishing a deep and genuine connection. In every interaction, Philip considers it a great privilege to join the pain of others, always striving to illuminate a path towards healing and understanding.

Philip utilizes different evidence-based therapeutic approaches to support his clients including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotion-focused individual Therapy (EFT), Focusing-oriented Psychotherapy (FOT), and Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFCT).

The combination of good self-help information and working with an experienced anxiety disorder therapist, coach, or counselor is the most effective way to address anxiety and its many symptoms. Until the core causes of anxiety are addressed – which we call the underlying factors of anxiety – a struggle with anxiety unwellness can return again and again. Dealing with the underlying factors of anxiety is the best way to address problematic anxiety.
