Medical Advisory

Anxiety can produce many symptoms. That’s because anxiety activates the stress response, which secretes stress hormones into the bloodstream, where they travel to targeted locations to bring about specific changes that enhance the body’s ability to deal with a threat.

Because these locations are throughout the body, anxiety can affect many parts, including the nervous system, which also runs throughout the body.

For a list of the most common anxiety symptoms, visit our Anxiety Symptoms section. The link is in the comments.

Because stress hormones are powerful stimulants, anxiety symptoms can be debilitating and many. They can also be frightening if you don’t understand how anxiety creates them.

Even though anxiety symptoms can be powerful and persistent, they aren’t harmful or permanent. That’s because there are many ways we can overcome anxiety disorder and eliminate its symptoms.

There are many reasons to be hopeful. Getting the right information and help is key to eliminating anxiety disorder and its symptoms.

However, and this is important. Before embarking on a treatment plan, you want to be sure your symptoms are solely anxiety related. You don’t want to assume.

That’s because many medical conditions and medications can cause anxiety-like symptoms. You want to discuss all new, changing, persistent, and returning anxiety symptoms with your doctor to ensure they are solely anxiety related.

If your doctor attributes your symptoms solely to anxiety, you can be confident there isn’t another cause. If you aren’t sure your diagnosis is correct, seek a second or even more medical opinions.

But if all opinions agree, again, you can be confident there isn’t a medical or medication cause. Being confident in your diagnosis can be of great value in your recovery efforts.
