Can I overcome anxiety disorder and eliminate the potential for rebounds due to the normal stresses of life, or am I always going to have rebounds due to stress even if I recover from anxiety disorder?

It’s my (Jim Folk) opinion and experience that you can overcome anxiety disorder and live a normal life without having rebounds due to stress.

That’s been my life over the last 37 years. Many people have attained that same level of success.

So, yes, you can overcome anxiety disorder and eliminate the potential for rebounds.

This doesn’t mean you won’t have stressful periods that cause a return of some symptoms of stress. Stress is a normal part of life and can be truly challenging at times.

It also doesn’t mean you won’t be anxious from time to time because this is also a normal part of our life experience.

But it means you won’t return to a struggle with anxiety disorder again.

When you don’t fear anxiety or its symptoms (Level One recovery) and address anxiety’s underlying factors (Level Two recovery), you eliminate the cause of rebounds. As such, you can’t return to a struggle with anxiety. The more work you do, the better insulated you are from a return to anxiety issues.

When you address both levels of recovery, you eliminate the cause of rebounds, allowing you to live normally without the threat of a return to anxiety disorder despite encountering stress.

Remember, anxiety disorder is caused by coping with adversity, uncertainty, and risk in unhealthy, overly anxious and stressful ways. Level Two recovery helps us cope with life in normal, healthy ways, significantly reducing the amount of anxiety and stress we experience overall.

Again, the more Level Two recovery work we do, the better the coping skills and the less we are affected by stress and anxiety.

So again, yes, you can overcome anxiety disorder and eliminate the potential for rebounds by sufficiently addressing both levels of recovery.

Recovery Support

The Recovery Support area of our website contains thousands of pages of important self-help information to help individuals overcome anxiety disorder, hyperstimulation, and symptoms.

Due to the vast amount of information, including a private Discussion Forum, many of our Recovery Support members consider it their online recovery support group.

The combination of good self-help information and working with an experienced anxiety disorder therapist, coach, or counselor is the most effective way to address anxiety and its many symptoms. Until the core causes of anxiety are addressed – which we call the underlying factors of anxiety – a struggle with anxiety unwellness can return again and again. Dealing with the underlying factors of anxiety is the best way to address problematic anxiety.
