Why won’t my anxiety symptoms go away?

Anxious behavior, such as worry, creates anxiety. Anxiety activates the stress response.

The stress response prepares the body for immediate emergency action – to either fight or flee.

Stress responses stress the body, and a body under stress can exhibit symptoms of stress. Therefore, anxiety stresses the body.

As such, anxiety symptoms are symptoms of stress. They are called anxiety symptoms because anxious behavior is the main source of the stress that stresses the body, creating symptoms.

Since anxiety symptoms are symptoms of stress, they won’t go away as long as the body is stressed.

There are two kinds of stress:

Acute Stress, which is caused by a short situation or circumstance, such as a sudden scare, worry, or physical activity.

And Chronic Stress, which is caused by a persistent situation or circumstance, such as constantly worrying about something or working long hours for many weeks, months, or years.

To eliminate anxiety symptoms, you’ll need to identify the source of your stress, address it, and then reduce stress sufficiently before your symptoms can subside.

Acute stress can be resolved relatively quickly, such as within a few moments or hours. However, chronic stress, which we call hyperstimulation since stress hormones are powerful stimulants, can take a very long time to resolve, such as several days to months, depending on the degree and length of chronic stress.

Nevertheless, as stress diminishes, anxiety symptoms subside. Identifying and addressing the main source of your stress will eliminate anxiety symptoms in time.

Anxious behavior is a common source of chronic stress for anxious people. Sufficiently dealing with your anxiety issues can eliminate that source of stress.

There are many natural ways to reduce stress. We’ll talk about those in future videos and which ones we think are the most effective.

Even so, working with an experienced anxiety disorder therapist is the most effective way to deal with anxiety issues. Since anxiety issues are caused by behavior, working with a therapist can help you identify those behaviors and help and support you as you make healthy behavioral change.

As you replace unhealthy anxious behavior with healthy behavior, issues with anxiety and its symptoms subside.

Because anxiety is caused by behavior, which we can change, there are many reasons to be hopeful. No one needs to suffer with anxiety long-term.

Since anxiety disorder isn’t the mystery it used to be, you can overcome it with the right information, help, support, and effort.
