The University of Westminster, Harrow Campus, was the venue
for the 1st International Conference on Psychophysiology of
Panic Attacks in 2003. This conference was organised by
Global Egg Donation Resource (GEDR) and PsyEdu.com,
both of which I helped to co-found.
There were delegates from all over the world. Dr. David Groom of the University of Westminster, Department of Psychology, and Prof. D. Klein of Columbia University (who coined the term "Panic Attack") were the keynote speakers. The conference was unique and the first of its kind. Past conferences have addressed related conditions, but never before with such a clear focas on panic attacks and their international diversity. There were papers from the scientific community covering psychopharmacology and physiology as well as spiritual and alternative perspectives. For completeness, two sufferers of Panic Attacks gave presentations which were well received by scientists and patients alike. The diversity of the presentations highlighted the fact that there is no single approach to such disabling conditions and that different patients respond to treatment approaches differently. |
